The ability to monitor every data point of your golf game through launch monitors is a real benefit of modern golf, and especially helpful if you’re looking to improve your performance. The technology available today is amazing. One of the top launch monitors on the market is the SkyTrak launch monitor. In this article, we will review and give an overview of the SkyTrak launch monitor and suggest our top choices for the best simulator software.
SkyTrak is a personal launch monitor that delivers instant and real-time 3D shot analysis and ball-flight data. Released in 2014, it was one of the first launch monitors available at affordable prices for the club golfer looking to build a home simulator. As a result, it was an extremely popular choice and continues to be a top choice still today.
SkyTrak as an established company in the industry has perfectly refined the technology in their launch monitors. The SkyTrak launch monitor allows golfers to monitor multiple data points including ball speed, launch angle, backspin, side spin and carry distance. The SkyTrak launch monitor also allows the user to choose between different features such as a skills assessment, bag mapping, closest to the pin, long drive, and target practice
The 12 data parameters that SkyTrak measures are:
-Ball Speed
-Launch Angle
-Backspin
-Side Spin
-Side Angle
-Spin Rate
-Carry/Total Distance
-Angle of Descent
-Club Head Speed
-Roll Distance
-Flight Path
-Offline (Ball off center line)
The SkyTrak allows golfers to practice at home when they are away from the course and get immediate feedback. It is slightly different from other launch monitors as it doesn’t use the doppler radar system for monitoring ball flight. Instead, it used a Photometric system which takes precise measurements of what the ball is doing immediately after impact through the use of a high-speed camera that takes images of the ball for a few feet after impact.
SkyTrak themselves say of this technology, "Photometric systems are generally accepted to provide the most accurate results in an indoor environment."
This type of system is great if you only have a small space, as you’ll only need enough space to swing your golf club for the SkyTrak launch monitor to work.
Another benefit of SkyTrak is that they also have an app that makes using the launch monitor outside, or on the range even easier as it can connect directly to your phone.
Furthermore, if you don't have internet access when away from the home you can connect the launch monitor to your phone through its Wi-Fi signal.
- Works in small spaces
- Highly accurate ball monitoring
- Portable launch monitor
- Does not require special balls or reflective dots
- Not as many golf course options as competitors
- Chipping and putting could be more receptive
The SkyTrak launch monitors are excellent and can be used on their own to review your swing data. However, to get the full benefits of this technology and get the full indoor simulator experience, you should use it with some dedicated software.
There are two SkyTrak software providers which we would recommend. The Golf Club, and E6 Connect. Below we will review the benefits of each to help you make your choice for the one which is best for your requirements.
The Golf Club:
This is an excellent piece of software and allows you to play over 170,000 golf courses from all over the World. The courses include all of the big names you would expect including Pebble Beach and The Augusta National.
The graphics of the display are excellent and are compatible with 4K projectors if you have this set-up in your simulator. There is an annual fee of around $100, but some simulator packages include this as part of the deal.
The one downside is that it is only compatible with a PC (Windows).
E6 Connect:
The benefit of the E6 Connect software is that you can play a variety of games and activities with your SkyTrak launch monitor, not just a driving range. You can also play online with friends.
It only has a limited number of courses available to play unless you upgrade to the premium subscription. However, the mapping of these courses is extremely accurate and makes up for the limited number available.
The graphics are very good and can also be run on 4k projectors, and an added feature is that it is compatible with both PC (Windows) and iOS devices.
I personally use and happy with the E6 Connect software. I can play over 80 courses and they also upload new courses occasionally.
We hope you’ve enjoyed reading this review of the SkyTrak Launch Monitor and simulator software. It is an excellent piece of technology that will perfectly complement any home golf simulator, the ability to work even in smaller golf studios is a real benefit. We also liked that it was mobile enough to be taken onto the course or driving range – if you buy this launch monitor there will be no excuse for your golf handicap not to improve!

As golfers, we are so lucky today with the amount of technology available to help us improve our golf. It wasn’t too long ago that swing speed and smash factor was not talked about, even at the highest level – this is why there is hardly any data on the swing details of Tiger Woods from the early 2000s.
In this review we will give you a full run-down of the FlightScope Mevo+ Launch Monitor, what are the features and benefits, whether will it help your game, and whether you should invest in buying one.
Founded in 1989 FlightScope is a global business that manufactures world-class launch monitors for golf and other sports. They specialize in doppler ball tracking technology and are renowned for the accuracy of their products. One of their biggest competitors is SkyTrak.
The Mevo+ was released in 2020 as an upgrade to the original Mevo. This launch monitor is used by many top players and PGA professionals including Bubba Watson and Bryson DeChambeau. If you keep reading, you’ll find out why these top players trust the Mevo+ so much.
The Mevo+ is a radar-based launch monitor which uses doppler radar to trackball and club data. It works by emitting a microwave signal which is reflected off the golf ball and the golf club when hit to accurately calculate the movement and data points of the shot and swing. A big benefit of using radar technology is that its performance isn’t affected by poor lighting, making it perfect for use indoors.
Mevo name stands for, M – Measure, E – Evaluate, V- Visualise, and O – Optimise.
The Mevo+ is the perfect training aid for any passionate golfer, allowing you to trust in its accuracy and not only dial in your yardages, but also practice with purpose to improve your game.
This is a very good launch monitor, and it captures all of the most important data from the golf swing. The Mevo+ monitors 16 data parameters including ball speed, club head speed, total distance, smash factor, spin rate, and launch angle, just to name a few. See the full data parameters table below:
-Carry Distance
-Club Head Speed
-Smash Factor
-Apex Height
-Flight Time
-Ball Speed
-Vertical Launch Angle
-Horizonal Launch
-Lateral Landing
-Angle of Attack
-Total Distance
-Roll Distance
-Spin Axis
-Spin Rate
-Spin Loft
-Shot Shape
So, if you like to measure the data of your swing you will have plenty of data to review. The Mevo+ easily connects to your phone or PC using WIFI. Therefore, you can easily connect it to your simulator software or use the FS Golf phone App to review this data.
The FS Golf phone App is a real benefit to the Mevo+ and makes it perfect to be used either at home, on the course, or at the driving range. Using this app, you can easily see all of the most important data on your phone.
This is perfect if you are setting up a home simulator, however, it will require up to 8 feet of distance behind the golfer to accurately allow the radar to work effectively. This could be an issue for some golfers.
If using the Mevo+ on a home simulator you will need to attach reflective stickers to the golf balls to help the radar measure the ball movement. There are fifty included with the launch monitor. Another alternative is to use the Titleist RCT Pro V1 golf balls – these are designed to be captured by radar and are compatible with the Mevo+.
- Accuracy is amazing from Mevo+
- The FS Golf App makes the monitor completely mobile
- Able to be used indoors and outdoors
- Requires a large space for indoor simulators
- Putting feature is not very receptive
I hope you’ve enjoyed reading this review of the FlightScope Mevo+ Launch Monitor, there are so many features that make this a recommended purchase. It is available for an excellent price given the data analysis available, combined with the mobility of using this indoors and outdoors. If you are looking to further improve your golf this will be the perfect addition to your game.
