To meet this demand, golf club developers are constantly looking for ways to find marginal gains, both in club head speed, forgiveness, and total distance. Well, it seems with the latest TaylorMade driver they might have developed a driver that ticks all of these boxes.

American golf company TaylorMade pioneered the development of metal and titanium woods and has dominated the golf club market since 1979. However, they now say that “the limits of titanium have been broken” as they introduce their new Carbonwood Stealth driver.
Why Use Carbon Fiber?
The TaylorMade Stealth uses a unique carbon fiber clubface, which is designed to offer increased forgiveness and distance from the tee.
A huge amount of technology and specialist engineering has gone into the development of this driver. Every aspect has been reviewed and improved, from aerodynamics to acoustics.
The carbon fiber design has allowed engineers to make the clubface 44% lighter than using titanium. This has mean that this mass can be moved to other parts of the club head, making the Stealth driver more efficient, and enabling a better energy transfer from club to ball.
According to TaylorMade the use of Carbonwood is the future, “Welcome to the Carbonwood age!” they have proudly advertised.
Is The TaylorMade Stealth Any Good?
During testing on the course and in the golf studio, we saw big improvements in the Stealth vs the most recent TaylorMade driver, the SIM.
First of all though, the looks of the club have raised a few eyebrows, its red face, paired with a matt black finish has not been popular with all golfers. However, we really liked the look of the design, and the red was discrete enough not to stand out too much.
The TaylorMade Stealth driver has a shaft that is 45.75 inches long and comes in different loft options, from 9 degrees to 12 degrees. It is also possible to manually adjust the loft by using the tool provided.
When we compared the stats against the TaylorMade SIM, we found that this driver generated more club head speed, more ball speed, and less spin. All of this combined meant there was a longer carry and the total distance improved. The perfect combination.
It seems that with the Stealth, TaylorMade has developed a driver which genuinely outperforms its previous model – which doesn’t usually happen with new golf clubs.
The larger sweet spot on the clubface meant that we saw increased forgiveness and a higher percentage of fairways hit from the tee. It is worth noting that although it is a very forgiving club, we were still able to shape our shots, easily hitting a fade or draw where required.

Callaway Golf 2022 Rogue ST Max Driver – Is It Any Good?
The ST in this model stands for ‘Speed Tuned’, and Callaway has developed it to promote a faster swing speed, and ultra-fast clubhead, to promote extra distance from the tee. You will notice the tungsten speed cartridge at the back of the club head. This is a 26-gram weight that is designed to promote an improved launch angle and extra forgiveness across the club face.

This is an added benefit for golfers as due to the two titanium bars behind the clubface it provides additional support to allow extra power to be transferred to the golf ball at impact.
The Callaway Golf 2022 Rogue ST Max Driver clubface design and technology also reduces twisting at impact with the golf ball. This means that you won’t lose speed during your swing, especially for shots that are mis-hit and don’t come from the sweet spot.
The ST Max is aimed at the mid to high-handicap golfer as it generates a higher trajectory ball flight and launch. It is also designed to allow added forgiveness for off-center shots.
The ST Max is available in 9, 10.5, and 12-degree loft types, using the adjustable tool you can change the lofts to suit your requirements.

Also, as the ‘speed tuned’ name might suggest, it also felt like we had generated a lot more clubhead speed in our swings, which for us translated into extra distance.
Some reviewers have mentioned the difficulty in the workability of the golf ball, but during our testing, we found it easy to work our shots and could produce a draw or fade shot where required.
